Week#4 September 24-28

Last Week of Fraction Operations Review!

This week we will focus on multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers.  This is a challenging topic for many students.  Please practice your multiplication math facts to become more efficient at determining common denominators.  These topics are not covered in our math book, so we will be using handouts in packets

Students received new packets for including learning targets and practice for multiplying and dividing fractions & mixed #s.
 
Try "Simplify as you Go" to avoid BIG, HAIRY, UGLY Numbers!

pg 28 in packet #1-9 (odd only)

Developed "checklist" for multiplying 2 mixed #s:
1) Convert mixed #s to improper fractions first
2) Simplify "along the way"
3) Multiply across
4) Simplify your final answer.


Homework:
pg 28 part#2 (1-9 odd) AND pg 32 part #1 (1,2,3)

Developed a "checklist" for dividing 2 fractions
"K"  "C" "F"

  1. "KEEP" the first fraction
  2. "CHANGE" the operation to multiplication
  3. "FLIP" the 2nd fraction
  4.  Simplify "along the way"
  5.  Multiply across
  6.  Simplify your final answer

  7. Homework: 
    pg 65 (blue sheet)  problems: 1-5, 9, 10
    pg 68 (green sheet) problems (6-10)

Review Learning Target Sheets
Students can cross out the  Learning Targets they have demonstrated mastery
Work on problems for the remaining Learning Targets (5 problems for each target)
Students ONLY do EXTRA PRACTICE for Learning Targets showing less than 80% proficiency.

Checklist Card:
Students will create their own "checklist card" with examples to use on the quiz and/or retake quiz.

For students retaking Adding/Subtracting Quiz add:

Subtracting Fractions/Mixed #s

Homework:
Individualized-
